BLOG OFFERS MORE INSIGHT INTO UCC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
In response to several requests from former players who want to stay connected to the program, Coach Dave Stricklin has started a blog where he gives readers a more personal look into UCC women's basketball. The blog is updated frequently and can be found at www.davestricklin.blogspot.com. The blog also provides a space where "Dave's Diary" entries can be archived and/or repeated. So far the response has been outstanding and so as long as there is an interest, Coach Stricklin will keep writing.

SAM THORNTON RECEIVES SCHOLARSHIP TO  ALASKA - FAIRBANKS                 Umpqua sophomore Samantha Thornton (Bremerton, WA) has accepted a basketball scholarship to compete at the University of Alaska - Fairbanks beginning next season. Thornton led the Riverhawks in scoring with 18 ppg, was named 1st Team All Southern Region, and played in the NWAACC Sophomore All Star game.   The University of Alaska's entire press release can be read at http://alaskananooks.com/news/2012/4/17/WBB_0417122607.aspx

COACH STRICKLIN GIVING BACK TO THE BASKETBALL COMMUNITY        
Some people just can’t get enough basketball and UCC’s Coach Dave Stricklin certainly appears to be one of those people. Even though coaching college basketball is extremely time consuming Coach Stricklin is somehow finding the time to give back to the basketball community through his writing.  He writes a blog and several articles a month for www.HoopSkills.com  which is a basketball training website for coaches and players of all ages.  The blog covers a wide range of basketball, leadership, and motivational topics and the articles are emailed to a list of over 25,000 subscribers.

Coach Stricklin is also involved in www.BasketballClassroom.com which provides online instruction and resources for any one serious about becoming a better, more successful coach. The website features special reports, videos, audio files, animations and other resources designed to help coaches gain a lifetime of knowledge in only a few months.

“Many, many years ago I was lucky enough to have an extremely successful coach take me under his wing and teach me all the ins and outs of coaching,” says Stricklin. “He made me promise that I would someday do the same for someone else and so that’s what I’m trying to do. Instead of mentoring someone one on one, the Internet is letting me reach out and try to help possibly thousands.”

UMPQUA ALUMNI MAKING AN IMPACT
The Umpqua Women's Basketball program has long prided itself on doing an excellent job of preparing student athletes to transfer and compete at the next level and this year certainly attests to that fact. Nneamaka Anyawu (Cornell University),  Mykiea Russell (Montreat College), Cassandra Tiggett (Southern Oregon University), Jameia McDuffie (University of Hawaii-Hilo), Chelsey Christensen (Warner Pacific University), and Gretchen Owens (Linfield University), all made significant contributions to their new teams this past season.

Other alumni who transferred from Umpqua and recently finished their education and basketball careers are now making an impact off the court as well. Micalea Williams (Northwest Nazarene University) is working full time for Nike, Moina Snyder (Cornell University) is in Medical School, Jori Grady (College of Idaho) is in Dental School and Sarona Snuka is featured on the WWF's Monday Night Raw. Kirsten Strawn (University of Oregon) is currently serving the Peace Corps and Kristi Fallin (University of Oregon) returned from playing on an NCAA All Star team in China and has enlisted in the United States Air Force.
