Where do I need to go?

New Student Orientation starts in the Campus Center Lobby. Check-in begins 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.

 

How long does New Student Orientation last?

Three hours.

 

Do I have to stay the entire time?

It is HIGHLY recommended that you participate in all the New Student Orientation activities as the program has been designed to help prepare you for your first term as a student.

 

I have children. It is okay to bring them with me?

If you are unable to arrange childcare, you are welcome to bring your child/children. We just ask that you ensure they are not disruptive.

 

What can I expect to learn at New Student Orientation?

There is one general session followed by two smaller breakout sessions:

 

General Session Includes (40 minutes):

  • Financial Aid
  • Nel-Net and Automatic Deposit
  • Campus Safety, Security and Parking
  • Bookstore
  • Student Code of Conduct

Breakout Sessions Include (50 minutes each):

  • Student Success Strategies: test taking strategies, time management, and note taking skills
  • E-Resources: How to use RiverHawk web including self-service banner, email and Connect-Ed, as well information on Angel

 

Where can I park?

If you have not picked up a student parking permit, you can park in the white lined parking spaces.

 

Will food or drink be provided?

The Bookstore will be open for purchases.

 

I’m not able to attend the session I signed up for – can I attend a different session?

Yes, you can attend a different session. Please call Registration at 440-7744 and they can help you change to a different session.

 

Is New Student Orientation mandatory?

It is HIGHLY recommended. Students who attend New Student Orientation are better prepared for their first quarter of class.

 

What if I cannot attend a session in person?

Sign up for the on-line orientation session.  You will use the Angel course management system to view power point presentations and videos.  You can move through each element of the on-line orientation at your own pace.
