What is the Expanded Options Program?

Students enrolled in local high school and home school students may be eligible to be awarded credit toward high school graduation for completing certain college-level courses. This process is called dual credit; where college credit, as well as high school credit, is granted.

graduation High School students have the opportunity to take college credit classes at UCC and receive both high school credit and college credit. There are associated tuition, fees and other applicable policies and procedures for courses. Students may take a mixture of traditional “on campus” classes and online courses. The student’s school district covers the cost of tuition, fees and often books. This program is a great introduction to college while students are in high school!

Expanded Options (Senate Bill 340) designated community colleges in Oregon to offer the Expanded Options Program for any student who is interested in enrolling in courses at the community college. Courses taken within EOP must meet certain state mandated criteria. The courses must not be offered by the home high school schedule and must be required for graduation.

Interested in the Expanded Options Program?

All students taking college level courses must meet certain criteria to be admitted to the college and must comply with all prerequisites for the college courses. For these reasons and more, all students interested in EOP must check with their high school counselor and the EOP office (program coordinator?) before registering for any EOP courses.

Eligibility Requirements:

Students should speak with their high school counselor or administrator responsible for authorizing participation in the EOP at Umpqua Community College. Verification that the UCC Compass Placement test requirements have been met, and the student is eligible to enroll in college courses is the responsibility of the high school.

Students wishing to take advantage of EOP must meet all of the following eligibility requirements:

Be classified as a high school junior or senior and at least 16 years of age at the time of enrollment
Be in good academic standing at their high school
Not yet graduated from high school
Recommended as “college ready” by their high school counselor
Able to benefit from participation in a college level learning environment

Expanded Options students must complete the Assurances and Authorized Courses forms acquiring the appropriate school and parental signatures

Admissions Process

The Application for Admission is your official request to attend Umpqua Community College. In order for the admissions process to be complete so you can register and attend classes, the following must be submitted:

An application for admissions needs to be completed online or a hard copy version submitted
Submit the $25 application fee; students who have not paid their application fee by the second week of the term will have a registration hold placed on their account.
