Have a librarian come into your class! Class presentations can be as long or as brief as needed, and give students a valuable starting point on research assignments while helping them realize they have allies in the library to turn to when questions arise. Classes must be scheduled AT LEAST one week in advance.
What can a Library Instruction Session do for my class?
- Give a quick introduction of the reference librarian and the library (5 minutes), so that students have a face and a name they recognize when the need for research assistance strikes.
- A presentation that briefly covers subject-specific library and online resources relating to an assignment. (15-20 minutes) Citation styles can also be covered on request!
- A longer class session with increased opportunities for students to immediately “try out” the concepts covered. In a computer lab, this could be independent research time with the librarian on hand to answer questions or, in a regular classroom, group activities without access to computers.
