People Friendly URLs
At times you may want to advertise your college program or service in printed material. An easy to remember URL that points your audience to your section of the www.umpqua.edu web site is essential. For example, recently the Career Network department contacted web services about shortening the URL for their web page to www.umpqua.edu/career-network. Web services made the change.
Not only are shorter URLs easier to remember, Google and other search engines "like" them too. Contact web services if you need help with this.

Finish Publishing
You might not be familiar with this option but it is a good option to use if you are publishing pages that will be out of date at some point. Just set the date in the “Finish Publishing” field and the content will “disappear” from the site when that date hits. It will still be available to edit and republish if necessary. It just won’t show on the www.umpqua.edu web site.

Filenames
From time to time, a web editor may want to upload a file, such as a PDF, and provide it as a download to web visitors.
What would be a good practice for naming your files? Keep in mind the following: make sure your filenames do not include any special characters like "&" or "/". The file may not upload. It is also a good practices to eliminate spaces in the filename.
What would be a well formed filename? A filename like this would be ideal ... "this-is-a-file-for-download.pdf". Notice that there are no capital letters. Omitting capitals is more of an aesthetic requirement than a technical one.
