President's Office

Good things are happening on campus as we move through our Winter Term. Our recovery is progressing while we focus on our mission of educating our students. Here is an overview of our efforts since the start of the year:

  • We submitted a proposal to the Oregon Legislature for $6 million for UCC’s recovery. Of this amount, $4.2 million is for an extensive remodel of Snyder Hall. We will know after the February session how much money UCC will receive.
  • We have had two board meetings; one a special meeting to approve the Snyder Hall remodel proposal and our regular monthly meeting.
  • Senator Merkley and his team visited our campus to meet with leadership and ask how he could help us through our recovery.
  • I’ve been interviewed by several local news media. KQEN’s Kyle Bailey did an interview during his lunchtime program and the News-Review and Mainstream both interviewed me for their publications. Here are links to two of the stories:

UCC STRONG PHASE III FORMS AVAILABLE ON CAMPUS

UCC Strong will have a new round of funding available for grants to help with unmet financial needs resulting from the events of October 1st. Forms are available on campus at the Student Center at the information desk and in the community at the following locations:

  • Umpqua Wellness Center
  • Greater Douglas United Way
  • Douglas County Sheriff’s Office
  • Douglas County Fire District #2

Please refer to the Recovery webpage on the UCC website for more information. Thank you once again to the community for your support. We are happy to see our campus community healing and moving forward. Our goal is to provide our students with the tools to succeed and gain the education they need.

I look forward to meeting more students, faculty and staff on campus as the quarter progresses. Feel free to submit thoughts and comments to my office at 541-440-4622.

Best,

Dr. Walter Nolte
