Counseling Services

UCC counseling services are available to current UCC students experiencing difficulties that may be impacting their academic lives.

Brief counseling sessions are short-term one-hour meetings that focus on a specific plan of action, identification of community resources, and referral for ongoing personal counseling needs.

Service Limitations

Students' requests for services sometimes exceed the capacity of UCC staff. Therefore, it is necessary to limit the length of services available to any one student. During high demand times, you may have to wait for a regularly scheduled appointment. Individuals who need more intensive care will be referred to appropriate clinical providers or programs in the community.

Availablility

Services are available only during regular business hours in fall, winter, and spring terms. UCC provides very limited counseling services during the summer term.

Confidentiality

Confidentiality within Counseling Services is considered essential for effective service. However, there are some exceptions to confidentiality. By law and professional ethics, the limits to confidentiality may include: harm to self or others; abuse of a minor, elder, or disabled person; court orders; or professional consultation. Counselors will review this with students.
