Winchester -- More than 300 high school students and guests are expected Monday, May 4, beginning at 8:30 a.m., for Career Day at Umpqua Community College.
A record number of students for this program will learn about careers in the areas emergency medical technician and the police academy, viticulture, nursing, welding, automotive and civil engineers.
These are careers where UCC has programs to get the students training and started in their careers. Beginning this morning in the Jacoby Auditorium lobby, the students, guests and high school counselors will learn about career opportunities in these areas – an important consideration presently – as well as courses and programs at the College that prepare them for these jobs.
Speaking to the students and counselors, will be the EMT and police academy’s Jesse Morrow, viticulture’s Chris Lake, nursing’s Sandy Hendy, welding’s Ian Fischer, civil engineering’s Brent Knapp and automotive’s Kevin Mathweg and John Blakeley.
The morning has been arranged so that students and counselors may rotate among as many different careers and they want before the event ends at noon with lunch.
