Roseburg— The Art Gallery at UCC is exhibiting the work of botanical illustrator Linda Ann Vorobik, beginning April 3. In conjunction with this exhibit, the Art Gallery is sponsoring a botanical illustration workshop led by Dr. Vorobik on Saturday and Sunday, April 19 – 20, 9:30 - 4 each day in Whipple Fine Arts Building, room 20. Workshop fee $125 ($100 for Umpqua Community College students and Umpqua Valley Arts Association members). Class size limited to 20 participants.
Learn the basics of drawing plants from seasoned botanist, illustrator and teacher, Dr. Linda Ann Vorobik, who through demonstrations and lectures introduces participants to drawing skills, parts of the plant, and what botanical illustration really is. The first morning begins with a lecture and demonstration followed by supervised sketching; the afternoon consists of lecture/demonstrations and sketching time. The second day will focus on the use of watercolors to finish illustrations beyond the pencil sketch. Dr. Vorobik will lead short nature walks each day to help participants identify native plants for illustration. The workshop closes with a friendly critique of drawings produced.
All skill levels are welcome. Dr. Vorobik is an enthusiastic, down-to-earth instructor; you can see her work at www.vorobikbotanicalart.com .
