Roseburg— The Associated Students of Umpqua Community College (ASUCC) invite the public to join them for World T'ai Chi & Qigong Day, on Saturday, April 26, 10am, on the College campus at the outdoor fountain. Hundreds of thousands of people in different locations around the world will be demonstrating T'ai Chi & QiGong at 10am, local time. It was a great opportunity to learn the wonderful health and fitness benefits of T'ai Chi and QiGong.
In its 10th year, World T'ai Chi & Qigong Day will begin in New Zealand, and the event will spread time zone by time zone across the globe through 60 countries and six continents. The final events will occur in the last time zones of Hawaii almost an entire day later.
The global event began in 1999. However the first event, that inspired the global event, was held in Kansas City, Missouri in 1998 on the lawn of the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art in midtown Kansas City, where the Kansas City Tai Chi Club held a mass Tai Chi exhibition and teach-in involving nearly two-hundred people. CNN Headline News covered the event, which generated interest beyond Kansas City to quickly grow into a national and international event in the following years.
