Winchester— Umpqua Community College is sponsoring a two-day workshop, “Handgun Safety and Self Defense” on August 15 to August 16, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, at the Workforce Training Center, 2555 N.E. Diamond Lake Blvd., Roseburg. Cost is $60, and the instructor is Terry Troutt. To register, call 440-7744 and ask for course number 14909.
This workshop, by a nationally certified instructor, allows participants to gain the knowledge and skill to properly use and care for handguns, and learn self-defense techniques and weapons retention. During the classroom session, the instructor will provide all necessary equipment. After meeting briefly the next morning at 9 am, the workshop will continue until noon at another site to practice safety and marksmanship, utilizing a series of targets. For the field segment of the workshop, please provide your own hearing protection, handgun, if available, or one will be provided, and 50 rounds of only factory-loaded ammunition. Upon completion, participants will be eligible to apply for a Concealed Weapon Permit.
